52 Books in 52 Weeks

In 2015, I made 52 handmade books - more or less one each week. The largest book is about 30 cm by 15 cm 9or 12" by 6") and the smallest one is less than 1 cm square - I have no idea what that is in inches, but it is teeny.

This year long project started as a way to motivate myself to do something creative on a regular basis and at the same time to use up some of the arty bits that I've been hoarding for way too long. I have started "annual" projects in the past, but like most resolutions, they all got derailed after a few months when I either became bored or overwhelmed. I'm really pleased that I found a project that maintained my interest without feeling like a burden for a full year.

Right at the beginning of the year, I decided that it was okay to be an underachiever. It didn't matter if the book I made each week was small, or simple, or imperfect. If that's what I was able to do at the time, that was fine. Some weeks, if I was travelling or working very long hours, I didn't manage to make a book at all. When this happened, I gave myself permission to get off schedule without feeling like I was "behind". I just made a few extra books later when I had more time.

I am glad that I finally made good use of some of the many art supplies I've accumulated. In addition to making all the books, I've been having lots of fun filling them up, because what's the point of just having a bunch of blank books? They have all become like little treasures to me.

I hope you enjoy this little peek at the books I made.

Oh, in case you are wondering, yes, I do have a year long project planned for 2016, but you'll have to wait until the end of the year for the big reveal.
